3D Animation
My interest in 3D Animation came about through multiple incidents. The first with the simple observation that the motion picture industry was moving away from strict camera videography to more hybrid or exacting realistic animation. I wanted to get into it before other competent 3D artists flooded the market. In response, I took a course at my local college on Autodesk Maya, the Autodesk Suite software that makes Pixar animation and realistic 3D animation. I quickly surpassed the basics in the syllabus of the class and then started self-teaching how to make muscles interact with the motion of the bone structure of the animated objects. When I asked for help from the professor, he said, "I surpassed him, and sadly you're on you're own." However, after passing the class, entering my animation in a film contest, and having it shown in a Historical theatre, I didn't further my curiosity about 3D animation until years later when ArtDogs LLC demanded the animation of products. ArtDogs LLC has many products and still many more in production. Since ArtDogs e-commerce is a start-up, it is not wise to put the funds towards production or spend on every variant of every product, photographing and videoing them for marketing. For example, producing the current line of Artwear would take three hundred thousand. According to Fiverr, if you were to estimate the cost of a photographer to market the items, the costs would amount to six hundred thousand. That is almost one million dollars when adding the two together. So I asked myself how I could cut the cost. I thought of hiring a realistic animator. Again Fiverr estimates it costs three hundred dollars to produce one realistic 3D animation. So that would drop the gross total from nine hundred thousand to three hundred thousand. That's better but still too high. Therefore I concluded I needed to reacquaint myself with the realistic animation I learned back in college. After doing such, I saved nine hundred thousand dollars! I achieved this when I set a goal to create realistic animations of our products to market in various ways. First, I reflected on my ability to self-teach and previous knowledge of 3D realistic animation. Second, Autodesk Maya 3D animation software has a high subscription cost. Therefore, I looked into major alternative brand 3D realist animation software. The primary two solutions were Unity and Unreal Engine 5. Both of these are cost-free with caveats. I weighed the pros and cons and decided Unity was my best option. Production is in full motion, and marketing is launching as I write. The economics of e-commerce is different than a storefront business which the post-COVID world is discovering. Creative problem solving, sound accounting, and finance practices are only a few of the strengths I bring to this project. Mastering social media basics are one thing, but the demands are more significant. Therefore my funds are channeled in that arena because time management is crucial.
