Videography and Editing
As a young child, fascinated by filmmaking of motion pictures and all the procedures, filming was my childhood dream. Of course, God may have other plans, but in my case, back then, by my choice, I would be a filmmaker by now. However, my life took some different but also fulfilling turns. After watching " The Producers' by Mel Brooks, it turns out accounting and finances best suit me. LOL Back then, my first step to becoming a filmmaker was to own professional software and equipment for editing videos. So I asked my parents for my tenth birthday for a video camera, Mac computer, and Final Cut Pro Suite. They said I needed to earn the $3,462.77. In response, that summer, with an inoperable broken arm in a sling that served as the best attention-getter, I successfully sold flower bouquets to raise funds at 100% profit! Consequently, I was also learning about raising capital for a business and the value of hard work. One might say this was my very first taste of business through entrepreneurism. However, I consider it the precursor to my official first encounter with managing and running a business when I flipped a real estate business from failing to succeeding. After earning the necessary funds and buying my first Mac and video camera, I received the Final Cut Suite editing software from my loving parents for Christmas. Therefore, I learned everything possible about editing software from all the available sources. I read books, watched videos, and gathered info off the web. My late Uncle Roger also helped me with decisions on hardware and software and gave me broken Macs and equipment to tinker and repurpose. In addition to film fanatic friends' influences and participation in making videos, another source was my Uncle Tony, who had educated my mom on film. My parents shared their film knowledge with me with our family Friday night pizza and movie tradition. If I wasn't editing a video, then I was behind the camera recording a video. Another hobby income entrepreneurial endeavor was creating Supremeonevideo.com. I did videography, edited wedding videos, and converted VHS to DVDs. In addition, along with professional camera operators who volunteered, I operated the professional tv cameras for church services and recorded video. An attempt to start a film club at my junior high convinced my junior high school to permit me to make an orientation video for incoming students, which the school district's counselors used for years to orientate elementary students to the junior high experience. Finally, I volunteered my skills for Not-For-Profits and made a commercial for a local hockey team.
It is fair to say that I tried to live behind the camera, at my desk, editing or directing my videos with my theatre and film enthusiasts' friends. I recorded and edited my choir, orchestra, theatrical performances, family, church, and charitable events. Although eventually an annoyance at the time to others, the memories captured are a blessing as loved ones have passed. Therefore, I made memorial videos to comfort loved ones. I became an expert on the Final Cut editing software suite. Consequently, my college professor of video editing told me he could not add to my knowledge and would appreciate my help teaching his Final Cut Suite editing course! At one point in college, my focus changed from video and music performance to business and investment; I grew out of hiding behind the camera and editing. Still, the skills of troubleshooting and self-teaching are helpful today. Although my childhood filmmaking aspiration went dormant, it wasn't the end of my creative self. On the contrary, it only furthered my skills on the computer as I dove deeper into my interest in the field of multimedia by learning 3D animation and videography, which I use in my art business to this day. But who knows, God willing, maybe someday I will make a motion picture? Life does have many surprises!
